Arumugam's Tandoori Stall Ampang

Hot juicy tandoori chicken & nan bread in Ampang KL. 5 star taste Msian street food.

The secret seems to be roasting the chicken over a charcoal BBQ rather than inside the conventional tandoori oven.

Goat curry, spinach dip for the nan.

Arumugam's way of doing the tandoori.

Nice hot fire

The tandoori chicken is succulent juicy with yogurt and not dry and crusty.

This place is hard to find but once you get there it is worth every effort. Find the Empire classic furniture store in Ampang.

Also search on google for Arumugam's Tandoori stall Jalan 5, One Ampang Avenue, Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia. Good luck if you find the place.

Hawker

Friday Sydney hawker style Malaysian. The little sister restaurant to Mamak down the road.
Long queues in Chinatown.

Open kitchen in shopfront. Black T shirts? Traditionally Msian hawkers wore white T cotton t shirts from China.

The seats are hard wooden stools. There is the slap down the plate service to complement the hawker food. The rice noodles with prawns were delectable. Slightly more salty rather than spicey consomme to give flavors to the soup.

Popiah has lots of crunchy fried shallots. Less vegetarian filling. This is the new trend to have it crunchy so may be less fulfilling for die hards of popiah.

The fried rice noodles penang style had alot of moistness from cooking oil.

The oyster omelet was at the right note. Slightly crisp exterior with eggy insides.

Fried durian fruit and ice cream go together. The batter did not dull the durian flavors. It could extend the aromatic fruit if it was thinner.

The peanut topped crunchy crepes was nice dessert with sweet corn.

Bustling chefs in shop front making ikan bakar (fish burn) and popiah (vegetable spring rolls).

Friend had wanton and noodles. Classy black sauce with cloying charcoal lyrics.

The barley ice drink had the hint of sucrose.   Worth queuing for. Lots of beautiful people.

Kopitiam Raffles City

Looking for a place to have Singapore style coffee or tea in Raffles City. Well try the Kopitiam in the basement. Kopitiam is the Singapore euphemism for Coffee Shop. There was a queue waiting so usually a good sign.
I was with old primary school friend and we were looking for a place to have chat.
Since it was late afternoon we decided to fore go the caffeine hit and had barley water. This was barley boiled in water with sugar added. It is supposed to be a cooling drink. Add ice and it is lovely on a hot humid day in Singapore.

The restaurant also serves local favourites like Bak Kut Teh or pork ribs in a herb soup. Char kway teow, fried carrot cake, nasi lemak and rojak is also available.

Check out their website:  http://www.kopitiam.biz/
The location is #02-00, Raffles City Shopping Centre, 252 North Bridge Road

Shanghai HK Noodle Shop

Shanghai Rice Rolls and soya bean milk.

The shop also sells steam buns and fried bread.  At 29 Jardines Bazaar, Causeway Bay. Very busy lunch time. You will have to share tables or take away. Service is fast and food comes quickly. Usually less than HK$50 for two.

Rice rolls have meat wrapped in sticky rice. Not a great place for vegetarian if you don't eat meat. Maybe stick to soya bean products.

Bowls of hot soya bean milk or cups of cold soya bean milk. With fried bread. Or even Shanghai dumplings. Siew loong pau.

Not easy to find in busy Hong Kong. It is next to 7-11 which is next to Siki Center on Jardine's Bazaar. Siki Centre has a spa.

Close to Times Square, Hysan Place and Lee Gardens for shopping. We walked 29 kilometers of shopping that day when we had lunch at the HK Noodle shop.

Ming Garden Hong Kong

Yum Cha in Jordan. Tea and sweet things. At Ground Floor, Ritz Plaza, 122 Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui

Pleasant decor and really cold airconditioning. 愉快的装饰和真冷空调 Sets the standard for eating in the humid summer heat in HK.

Chinese tea cups with a handle. 中国茶杯把手 (Zhōngguó chábēi bǎshǒu) How quaint. Not something we often see in a Yum Cha restaurant. Traditionally most chinese tea cups are without handles.

Rice flour rolls served in elongated plates. We think these rolls are harder to make as the surface area is markedly increased.

There were a variety of deep fried dough. Some which had to be coated in honey before eating. Novel and unique. There were also giant fried wantons.

Generally, the food came out piping hot and fresh. The pastry may have been a little thick for Hong Kongers but for expats and tourist like us it was ok.

This is a nice restaurant for Yum Cha in busy and bustling Tsim Sha Tsui. About 100 meters walk from the nearest train station entrance on Jordan.

Nyonya Colors Mid Valley City

Nyonya food galore. So busy and so many patrons. Great selection of nyonya cakes.

Nyonya the Strait of Melaka melting pot of middle kingdom and peninsula cultures. Culminating in unique taste and cuisine. See http://www.nyonyacolors.com/

We had hot tea cooled by throwing tea between two mug. The vernacular being 'teh tarik' or pulling tea between two mugs to cool and create a head of froth on the tea.

Red bean soup or kacang merah. With hint of tangy orange skin.

Shaved ice with peanuts and brown sugar or "ice kacang" was yummy with lots of sugar and sweet condiments.

Chendol or green jelly with shaved ice and green jelly.
The range of food at nyonya colours. We enjoyed the light afternoon tea. Very crowded. Have to find own seat.

Chins Noodle House 面馆 Leeming

Fast Chinese food. Australian Style. See http://www.chins.net.au/

Yum Cha Dim sum and stuffed duck. You have to preorder this dish. This restaurant is just off the Kwinana freeway. Take the turn off when you can see the new Fiona Stanley Hospital.  Continue until you hit the neighbourhood shopping plaza on the left.

To fu hot pot
Not a bad dish for vegetarians. Nice thick sauce.

Fried Noodles

Lots of yummy noodles. Sauce and noodles slid down your throat. Good for the long life effect - some believe you eat noodles for long life. Worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood.

Alternatively if you are working at Fiona Stanley Hosp and are hungry after your shift. Visit this chinese restaurant. No need to preorder. Can be busy though. It is a family run restaurant and the prices are reasonable for Perth. if you are from interstate you may not agree but then you may not have exprerienced the resources boom for the last 5 years in Western Australia.
